Cyclists were about an hour ahead of schedule today as they rode into Colorado Springs on the 5th leg of the USA Pro Challenge. KRCC's Andrea Chalfin was along the circuit route, and has this report.

The stage began in Breckenridge and picked up Highway 24 near Hartsel. Riders traveled through Garden of the Gods Park before entering the day’s circuit finish through downtown Colorado Springs. A light rain began to fall as spectators waited there for the racers. Cody Greenwood was one of them, in town from Michigan for a conference. Greenwood said he was looking forward to seeing the speed of the racers.

"Cause you know how fast we ride bikes, right, you can see amateurs ride bikes all the time, but you rarely get to see a pelaton come by at full speed."

The race picks back up Saturday starting in Golden and ending in Boulder. Sunday, cyclists hit a time trial course in downtown Denver to finish out the race.

For KRCC News, I’m Andrea Chalfin.
