Drought conditions this year have affected waterfowl habitats in eastern Colorado so that hunters may have trouble finding ducks and geese this fall and winter.

Avian research program leader for Colorado Parks and Wildlife Jim Gammonley says lack of moisture in the state will likely force birds to migrate elsewhere. Park and Wildlife officials say spots with enough water will have ducks and geese, but conditions could change based on precipitation. They say most lakes in southeast Colorado are low and dry.
While the drought may make finding waterfowl difficult this year, officials say a dry cycle can help wetlands be more productive in the long-term. Hunting season varies depending on the location and game.
