The National Wildlife Federation recently released the results of their Hunters and Anglers survey. KRCC’s Kate Dunn says the report shows conservation continues to be an important issue for many sportsmen.
The 2012 survey polled 800 self-identified hunters and Anglers around the country and found nearly half believe land conservation is just as important as gun rights. 13 percent said it’s more important.
Michael Seraphin of Colorado Parks and Wildlife says the results aren’t really surprising.
“The survey results kind of tend to reinforce the fact that hunters and anglers are conservation minded, and that in Colorado, and most states in the US, the basic funding for wildlife management from state agencies comes from the sale of hunting and fishing licenses.”
According to the survey, hunters and fisherman brought in $90 billion dollars to the national economy during the 2006 to 2011 period. In 2006, a Fish and Wildlife service study said sportsmen contributed $3 billion dollars to the Colorado economy.
