Cyclists in downtown Colorado Springs have two new designated spots to lock their bikes. KRCC’s Eliza Densmore reports on some recently installed bike corrals.

The new bike racks are a pilot program to help determine if there’s enough demand for possible future locations. Nick Kittle of the Colorado Springs Office of Innovation says the corrals are meant to help reduce bike clutter.

When people walk on the sidewalks and are downtown, lots of times there are bikes chained to fences, chained to light poles, so what we wanted to do is provide in a very small amount of space, a lot of bike parking that really hopefully will remind people that we value multi-modal and bike transportation.

The corrals are at the Tejon and Colorado and Tejon and Cache la Poudre intersections and can hold up to 10 bikes each. Businesses with a corral outside their building are expected to provide maintainence.
