Evening service has returned to some bus routes in Colorado Springs. KRCC’s Hannah Sohl reports.

During the economic downturn, the city cut funding to Mountain Metropolitan Transit, which meant the transportation system cut services. Now, some are back. Service for almost half the city’s routes is extended until about 9:45 p.m. Among the selected routes are Academy, Pikes Peak Avenue, and from Pikes Peak Community College to the World Arena. Vicki McCann with Mountain Metropolitan Transit says there’s lots of need for the returning services.

"Bringing some evening service to our system was a request we heard very often and it going to help connect our riders with jobs and shopping, dining and entertainment, give them some options they haven’t had for quite a while."

McCann says they also get lots of requests from riders to add more frequent service as well as transportation on Sundays. But she says there is still a shortage of additional funding to make that happen.
