Colorado College students are back in two buildings today after a chemical incident in a science lab yesterday afternoon caused evacuations and sent 13 people to the hospital. It also shut down Nevada Avenue. KRCC's Hannah Sohl reports.

One person remains hospitalized, while all others exposed to the chemicals were released within hours. Sunny Smaldino with the Colorado Springs Fire Department says the HazMat team finished their operations by evening.

"Were just glad we were able to avoid something that could have been much more serious and we feel bad for the people that were impacted by that and we really hope a speedy recovery to everybody that was affected."

Officials tested both buildings for residual hazardous chemicals and declared them to be safe. The two buildings were evacuated after the chemical titanium tetrachloride was released in the basement of Olin Hall.
