The town of Hoquiam, Washington has declared that April 10th will be celebrated as “Nirvana Day.” The small town is located four miles away from late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain’s hometown of Aberdeen, WA. The celebration coincides with the day the surviving members of Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. [via Consequence of Sound]

“The Wire” creator David Simon writing musical based on The Pogues

David Simon, mastermind behind critically-adored TV shows The Wire and Treme, has written a musical based on Irish rock band The Pogues. The script reportedly still “will take years” to be ready for performance, however. Simon has used the music of the Pogues numerous times in his shows, the most memorable occurrence of which is perhaps “The Body of an American” in The Wire. [via Rolling Stone]
