Senate President Morgan Carroll, an Aurora Democrat, says lawmakers are drafting a bill to examine its impact and prepare to advocate keeping open the state's facilities.
“So we’re commissioning a study for Colorado on the criteria to make the case for Colorado’s military institutions," Morgan says. "We have a bi-partisan commitment to do that.”
Carroll says closures could have a multi-billion dollar impact, and the bill will be a top priority for the second half of the legislative session.
The state’s military facilities include the Air Force Academy, Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, Peterson Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base and Fort Carson Army Base in the Colorado Springs area, as well as the Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora.
