Things to do in Colorado on Mother’s Day weekend

A holiday typically filled with flower arrangements, greeting cards and boxes of chocolates, every family has their own way of celebrating Mother’s Day.

So, how about saying “Happy Mother’s Day” this year by taking mom to a museum, ballet or comedy club?

CPR’s Arts Bureau shares a few special arts and culture happenings across the state designed to tell mom how much she means to you.

Symphony at the Movies
Colorado Symphony presents the music of “Fantasia”

The Colorado Symphony brings the cinema to the concert hall with an evening of music from Disney’s “Fantasia.” Footage from the movie will display on the big screen while the orchestra plays live.

Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra hosts Beat Beethoven 5K

The Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra challenges families to finish a 5K race before the conclusion of Beethoven’s “Fifth Symphony” during the Symphony’s first "Beat Beethoven 5K." Beethoven's famous symphony will be broadcast on CPR classical during the race, starting at 9 a.m.

Tune into CPR's arts show on Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. for an interview with Amber Johnson, the editor of Mile High Mamas, an online resource for Colorado moms. Johnson talks with arts editor and host Chloe Veltman about the evolution of Mother’s Day and what the modern-day mom really wants from the holiday.
