On this week's show:
  • Once known as the Harlem of the West, the Five Points neighborhood in Denver has a history rich in the melodic scats and smooth harmonies of jazz. Terry Nelson, a senior manager at the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library, talks with Art Report host Chloe Veltman about why Denver’s jazz heritage matters.
  • Arts reporter Corey Jones looks at the latest wave of economic development in Five Points and how this impacts the cultural heritage of the neighborhood.
  • Chloe Veltman chats with Emily Southard, who bought a 19th-century home in Five Points in February. It was only at the time of closing that the new owner discovered the house possessed a storied musical past.
  • Colorado band Buckner Funken Jazz gives CPR an exclusive preview of its song “Five Points Strut.” The track evokes the spirit of Five Points back when jazz was alive and jamming in every hotel and club along Welton Street.

CPR's The Colorado Art Report airs on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tune in live or access online at any time.
