Colorado Spotlight this week: Off the Hook and Colorado College festivals

Here's what's on tap for the week of June 9.

Monday

The Colorado College Summer Music Festival opens this week in Colorado Springs. Thursday night's concert features music by composer Jean Françaix. Susan Cahill -- bassist with the Colorado Symphony and a performer at the Colorado College festival -- gives a brief introduction to Françaix, an underrated 20th century composer. And we'll hear a performance of Françaix's Octet.

What's in a name? The Off the Hook Summer Chamber Music Festival kicks off its third season today in Fort Collins. Founder and Artistic Director Jephta Bernstein went for its catchy name by borrowing from adolescent slang.

Tuesday

The Colorado College Summer Music Festival's Thursday concert features a quartet for an unusual combination: clarinet, horn, cello and snare drum by composer Bohuslav Martinu. Michael Grace of Colorado College gives an introduction to this unusual 20th century work, and we'll hear a recording of it.

WEDNESDAY through Friday
