Colorado Spotlight this week: Katie Mahan, Colorado Music Festival and more

Here's what's on tap for the week of Sept. 1.  


The music of Robert Schumann, and a performance of his Piano Quintet No. 1 from Bravo! Vail featuring pianist Anne-Marie McDermott.


A look Mendelssohn's unique String Octet, and a performance of the piece at the Colorado College Summer Music Festival


Camille Saint-Saens wrote many beautiful compositions, though some critics panned the quality of what he wrote. We'll hear his Violin Concerto No. 3 performed by the Colorado Music Festival featuring soloist Calin Lupanu.


The Sphere Ensemble, a 13-member string ensemble with no conductor. We'll hear their arrangement of Elgar's "Serenade for Strings" recorded in 2013.


Pianist Katie Mahan talks about an upcoming benefit concert on Sept. 12, and we'll hear her arrangement of a George Gershwin song.
