A dog and its walker move across ice-covered Pearl Street following a late winter storm Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, in Denver.

The city got just under 2 inches overnight for a total of 22.2 inches so far this month. That total could go higher, with more snow expected late Saturday, the last day of February.

"We don’t normally get heavy snows in February, so it’s a little harder to get those numbers up there. But it’s certainly been a very productive latter half of the month," said Frank Cooper with the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Denver’s previous record for February snow was 22.1 inches, set in 1912. Boulder has also set a record for its snowiest February, with over 50 inches of snowfall. That smashed the previous record of 32.1 inches set in 2012.

It's also worth remembering that temperatures in the first few weeks of February were well above average.
