La Plata County Human Services is investigating more cases of possible elder abuse this year, reports the Durango Herald.

The number of reports is about the same as 2014, explained the county's director of human services, but more reports merit an in-person assessment this year. That's made it difficult for case workers to keep in line with the state standard of 25 cases per person.

The paper says that the two La Plata County case workers handled an average of 30 cases each in March.
