Black Lives Matter 5280 Calls For Stapleton Name Change

· Aug. 10, 2015, 4:38 pm

Activists in Denver used Sunday's anniversary of the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, to call for changing the name of the city's Stapleton neighborhood. It's named for former Denver Mayor Benjamin Stapleton, who was also a member of the Ku Klux Klan.

Residents in the northeast Denver neighborhood found flyers and banners outside homes and businesses Sunday morning. The group Black Lives Matter 5280 is behind the campaign to rename the neighborhood. They want residents to speak out at upcoming meetings and contact the city council.
