Outside Magazine Showcases Naughty Behavior At Hanging Lake

Outside Magazine's latest iteration of its best-places-to-live-in-America list. 

The only problem though, is that one of the photos accompanying the spread shows someone walking on a log at Hanging Lake -- a big no-no.

 The lake, about 10 miles east of Glenwood, is notable for its limestone shoreline and mineral-infused water that gives it a turquoise color. It's an incredibly fragile -- and popular -- destination that the White River National Forest is constantly trying to protect. 

“Publishing such a photograph to a national/international audience is the last thing we want to see,” Bill Kight, spokesman for the forest, told the Post Independent. 

Outside owned up to its mistake by removing the photo from its online article and adding this note: "A previous version of this article showed someone walking across the log at Hanging Lake. That's against the rules—don't do it!" 

But unfortunately, the Post Independent notes, the picture appears in the magazine's September print issue.
