trying to convince the federal government that the greater sage grouse doesn't need to be listed under the Endangered Species Act. 

That's a familiar effort to folks in Gunnison. CPR News reporter Grace Hood reports this morning on what happens when a community tries to head off a listing -- in this case over the Gunnison sage grouse -- but it happens anyway.
