Adams County Pushes Back On Temporary Fracking Ban
A temporary ban on hydraulic fracturing failed to win support from the Adams County Commission, after a lengthy meeting that lasted into Wednesday morning.
Instead, the commissioners said they wanted to find ways to regulate fracking that stop short of a ban.
The decision came after a marathon public meeting that lasted more than 8 hours. Many residents expressed concerns about drilling. They called for a 10-month moratorium.
But commissioners like Steve O’Dorisio say a fracking ban would hurt families who rely on income from the oil and gas industry.
“I think it was very clear across the board that this commission wants to find other solutions out there before going to that extreme,” said O’Dorisio.
The commission will hold another hearing on oil and gas development next week.
