2 Colorado Natives Named To US Olympic Women’s Soccer Team

Two Colorado natives have been selected to compete on the national women's soccer team in the 2016 Rio Games.

The Denver Post reports Mallory Pugh, of Highlands Ranch, and Lindsey Horan, of Golden, were named to the roster Tuesday. Both will be making their Olympic debut when the games start in Brazil next month.

At 18, Pugh will be the second-youngest U.S. women's soccer player in history to compete in the Olympics. She was named the Gatorade national player of the year in 2015 and is captain of the U-20 U.S. women's national team.

The 22-year-old Horan skipped college to play professionally in France and plays for Portland Thorns FC of the National Women's Soccer League.

The team opens the tournament in Brazil against New Zealand on Aug. 3.
