As the Democratic National Convention opened Monday in an uproar, former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb was among those handed the task of trying to chart a unifying course for the party.
Leaked emails that show Democratic National Committee officials plotted against Sen. Bernie Sanders, who ran a strong campaign challenging the now presumptive nominee, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Sanders was loudly booed when he spoke to his supporters after telling them they needed to vote for Hillary Clinton and her running mate Tim Kaine. And DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz was booed earlier in the morning while speaking to Florida delegates. She announced she will step down after this week's convention.
Some Colorado DNC delegates are "extremely upset," said Rep. Joe Salazar, D-Thornton, a delegate pledged to Sanders, adding that "anything is possible" at the convention now.
Webb -- a Clinton supporter -- has been appointed to the DNC Unity Reform Commission, a collaboration between the Clinton and Sanders campaigns and the DNC.
"The primary season brought to light some issues we need to address as a Democratic family and that is exactly what we're going to do," he said. "As we go through the process of improving our nominating process we will continue to move our party and our country forward."
Just as we watched LeBron James and Steph Curry shake hands after a well fought final, we know the country is eager to watch these two giants to move forward together to champion progressive causes and most importantly to ensure we swear in a president come January who will uphold the ideals we hold most dear…they both deserve our cheers.
More Colorado speakers are set to talk at the convention, including Gov. John Hickenlooper and Colorado House Democratic Leader Crisanta Duran.
