Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet, a Democrat, announced Thursday he will vote against the nomination of fellow Coloradan Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court.
"Judge Gorsuch is a very conservative judge and not one that I would have chosen," Bennet said in a statement. "I have concerns about his approach to the law. Those concerns grow even more significant as we confront the reality that President Trump may have several more opportunities to transform the Court with a partisan majority."
Aside from his views on Gorsuch as a judge, Colorado's senior Senator has been openly irked by the process to confirm President Trump's nominee. Bennet voted against the Democratic-led effort to filibuster a vote on Gorsuch. But he also took to the Senate floor to speak out against the "nuclear option," the rule change Senate Republicans implemented Thursday that allows a simple majority to confirm high court justices.
Gorsuch is set to be confirmed by Senate Republicans on Friday.
Colorado's other U.S. senator, Republican Cory Gardner, says he will join his party in voting for Gorsuch's nomination.
