A Lego art installation planned for Fort Lewis College’s John F. Reed Library in Durango is now up in the air.

It was supposed to be the largest commission yet for Sam Bridgham, the self-proclaimed Lego Bomber of Durango. But after the departure of the John F. Reed’s director Martha Talman, the library is unsure if it will move forward with the artwork.

In an email to CPR News, Fort Lewis Dean Steve Elias said the decision was not "definitive."

"The status of the LEGO project, at the moment, is uncertain," Elias wrote.

Bridgham had already begun building the installation and has much of it sitting at his home. When asked what he would do next in light of the uncertain library commission, Bridgham replied: "I plan to Lego bomb the entire surface of the Earth."

Before that can happen, Bridgham said he will display some of the artwork intended for the library installation on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at the Animas City Farmers Market in Durango. He’ll turn the rest of the already-built pieces into Lego bombs around town.

He says he had hoped to finish the project at the library, but "I don’t want my art going where it isn’t wanted."

Bridgham had planned on placing Lego designs up the library’s four large columns, as well as a mosaic-like work that would have wrapped around the balcony.
