An RTD light rail train passes a traffic signal as it leaves the Louisiana-Pearl station in south Denver on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018. This train did not violate the red signal; it was green when the operator began to leave the station.

The Regional Transportation District will shut down four downtown Denver light rail lines for 10 days starting Friday to complete renovations.

The D, F, H and L lines will be closed between the 30th Street and Downing Street station and the Theater District Convention Center Station starting 8 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Sept. 24.

All traffic lanes on 19th Street between Stout Street and California Street and on California Street between 18th Street and Broadway will be closed during construction. Delays are expected.

The renovation project, funded by a $2.5 million dollar Colorado Department of Transportation grant, will replace 24-year-old tracks near the intersections of 19th Street and California Street and 18th Street and Broadway.

“It’s aged infrastructure that we will be replacing as part of our ‘State of Good Repair’ program, which is designed to optimize our system to better serve our community,” said RTD Project Outreach Manager Lisa Trujillo

Trujillo says RTD plans to run on schedule as much as possible but advises commuters to add a few minutes to their travel plans. RTD will operate charter buses from temporary stops around the closures.
