Event Description

DIY Casual is launching their debut series of events at the Boulder Bandshell (1212 Canyon Blvd., Boulder, CO 80302), curating and producing an end-of-summer live music and independent, arts, activism festival, dubbed Casual Fest. (in Downtown Boulder) It is an artist, artisan, activist, and any creator showcase, directly committed to catalyzing community and further advocacy of LGBTQI + BIPOC + Femme voices and movements that are typically underrepresented to the mainstream public. Our goal of creating a more inspired, considerate, educated, and tolerant community when it comes to sharing ideas. We are allowing local organizations and volunteer based institutions a free booth and partnership for Casual Fest, as well as human and indigenous rights organizations. Our secondary goal is inspiring the next, and previous, generations of creatives, without access to creative space and materials.

We believe that art should be accessible to everyone, and the opportunity to show it off or participate in a local market should not be limited by finances. We are looking to create a more vibrant art community, and do not see people's means or presentation as a barrier to participation. in the spirit of art as a form of healing and connection of our community after so much hardship and tragedy. The spirit of these events will be to showcase and connect the greater art community, offering a platform for all.

This afternoon/evening concert is a simple independent music event driven to make alternative and lesser known subculture/culture into the public mainstream. The lineup is curated with independent local artists.
Each event will be totally open to public application, inviting writers, poets, activists, speakers, and artists of all varieties to perform their work in 5 -10 min slots. We will have a networking table for creatives to come create art with free supplies while listening to music and meeting people.

DIY Casual as a registered nonprofit and will be fundraising donations for causes, as well as beginning fundraising for our organization. Our primary purpose for our premiere events, we strive to truly serve our community and establish our roots as a cultivator of connection in the community- providing a platform for independent creators and artists to perform to their fellow citizens.

Message from the Creators:

Casual Fest is a series of independent arts and music festivals at the Boulder Bandshell focused on showcasing our real, truly diverse independent art scene. We are putting out an open call for poc/femme/lgbtqi musicians, solo acts, movement artists, builders, artisans, live painters- so please send people in your circle our way.
Looking for more speakers (survivors, stories, on movements, etc), community organizations, activists, and non-profits that would like to share their message in-between the music to the greater public at this point of contact for their cause.

Would like to have someone like this to MC each night.

We are also opening an art market open to the public for no cost.

We welcome anyone that would like a booth at the event for their organization to do outreach.

All of these are requested at any of the following dates:

Friday, August 6, 2021
Friday, September 10, 2021
Friday, September 17, 2021

Donate to @diycasual on venmo (tax deductible status from registered 501c3 in the state of CO) primarily to pay independent and underrepresented musicians, support rental costs for the Art Market and other booths, a dedicated Sound Engineer and house PA. Or send a check to "DIY Casual Foundation" and postmark to: 5000 Butte St. Lot 291, Boulder, CO, 80301

[email protected]
and have them put in the subject line the requested date, name, and (“art market” or “perform” or “partnership” or “speaker” or “live paint” and “organization”, and links to social media/desired name on the poster.

These are radical events by nature and our biggest priority is on making them safe spaces to share, and inspire change.

Music is just the vessel to deliver and inspire change and this showcase is really about what each voice adds to it.
