"Colorado Bach Ensemble performs Bach's BWV 33 as part of their Cantata Insights Series. Cantata 33, Allein zu dir, Herr Jesu (Alone to Thee, Lord Jesus Christ) is a chorale cantata with the original chorale melody appearing in the first and last movements. The cantata is based on the hymn by Konrad Hubert (1540). Bach composed the work in 1724, and it was first performed in September of that year. It opens with an exciting and energetic chorale fantasia - listen for the chorale melody in the soprano line. Another highlight is the third movement, a beautiful alto aria accompanied by solo violin."
