CU Presents: CU Symphony Orchestra: A (Delayed) Premiere from 1956
When
Event Description
"In 1956, Irene Britton Smith completed her master's of music in composition. She was a dedicated educator in the Chicago Public School system, only stealing time to compose during her summers or rare sabbaticals. Sadly, her thesis composition, 'Sinfonietta,' has never been played or heard by the public. As a result of manuscripts from the Helen Walker-Hill Collection, the CU Symphony Orchestra will present the first performance of Smith's 'Sinfonietta.' Also featured on the program will be Emilie Mayer’s 'Faust-Ouverture' and Jean Sibelius’ 'Symphony No. 2 in D Major.'
