Event Description

"The Mt. Blanca Fine Arts Association presents "North American Musical Gems: Music of Canada, the United States and Mexico.' The beauty of creation is depicted musically in many pieces on the program. Selections on the program include Canadian composers Kelly-Marie Murphy ('Frozen Fire' and 'Sunset Sky') also Andrew Staniland’s 'Aliment Roots.' American Amy Beach’s 'The Years at the Spring,' 'June,' 'A Mirage' and 'Stella viatoris' continue this theme. Portions of Alan Hovhannes’ Suite for Violin and Cello will be included on this concert. Songs by prominent Mexican composers Manuel M. Ponce, Jaime León, and Miguel Sandoval will be performed. Also included on the program are 'Canciones del Pasado,' Spanish folk songs from the San Luis Valley/Northern New Mexico, which were collected in the 1920s and have been made into exquisite arrangements by Texas composer Mari Esabel Valverde."
