Colorado Superintendents Protest ACT Testing Switchup

The group representing school superintendents across Colorado has filed a protest against the state’s decision to switch from the ACT college entrance exam to the SAT. The high-stakes college entry test is mandatory for all Colorado 11th graders.

Bruce Caughey, head of the Colorado Association of School Executives, says districts, students and parents have already invested in tests and materials aligned to the ACT.

"There’s just absolutely no time to gear up properly to prepare students or to have the infrastructure in place to deliver on a new test," he said.

Colorado Department of Education officials say they’re working hard on a plan to allow this year’s 11th grade students to take the ACT as planned. Officials have fielded hundreds of inquiries from parents about which test students will be taking.
