Technically speaking, Bill Frisell is a jazz guitarist, but better to think of him as a musical shapeshifter. One minute, he’s putting his spin on a Thelonious Monk tune. The next, it’s a classic country song by Hank Williams. Frisell grew up in Denver and went to East High School. Frisell spoke with Colorado Matters about his induction into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. He’s part of a class called “Jazz and Beyond” that includes Dianne Reeves, Ron Miles, Charles Burrell, and members of Earth, Wind & Fire.
Frisell is also the subject of a new documentary, which screens tonight in Denver at the Sie Film Center. It’s called, “Bill Frisell: A Portrait.”
