Black pregnant and postpartum people in Colorado continue to die at disproportionately higher rates. A new report found that they experience a mortality rate of 104.5 per 100,000 people. That's compared to 54.7 per 100,000 people which is the overall mortality rate for Colorado's pregnant and postpartum population. The report analyzed data from 2016 to 2020. This issue is the focus of an upcoming event and is very close to the heart of Dr. Dawn Owens Robinson, an obstetrician and gynecologist in Westminster and Louisville, who sees this issue and the long-term effects on Colorado first-hand in her work.
