Colorado’s bright, dry climate poses special skin challenges for people of color

Tasha Madison, an aesthetician and owner of On The Go Wellness Spa in Denver, specializes in treating a diverse clientele. Her spa is hosting an event this weekend with dermatologist Dr. Tina Suneja, focused on skin care for people of color in Colorado’s sunny and arid climate.

Colorado is known for its mountain views, outdoor recreation, low humidity and bright sunshine. Those latter conditions are often not so kind to the body’s largest organ – skin. Based on research by the National Climatic Data Center, the website Everyday Health includes Denver on its list of 15 cities that are toughest on skin.

People of color especially say they struggle with the effects of aridity.

One Denver woman decided to address that. She teamed up with a dermatologist of color in hopes of providing relief.
