The Democratic Republic of Congo is more than 8,000 miles away from Colorado, but that's not stopping Emmanuel Weyi of Denver from running for president of the African country.
Weyi left the country when he was 18 and eventually landed in Denver. That was two decades ago. He's founded -- and still runs -- a number of organizations with a humanitarian focus, including the Colorado Sickle Cell Foundation and Groupe Weyi International, a mining company in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The elections are in 2016 and Weyi's official campaign kickoff is Tuesday night at the Governor's Mansion in Denver. Weyi spoke with Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner about what compelled his campaign.
