During the pandemic, one of Colorado’s most populous counties threatened to create its own health department. In Douglas County, south of Denver, commissioners believed the health service they’re a part of had overreached with its pandemic safety measures. Since then, they’ve fired a board of health representative, a second has left, and now there’s infighting among the commissioners themselves.
