Most people will agree that all kids deserve a fun, safe place to play. And research shows that playing sports helps kids develop valuable life skills and they grow up healthier and feeling better about themselves.

That growing body of research inspired a flagship event in Colorado. Hundreds of people from sports organizations across the country gathered on the campus of the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs this spring to discuss ways to help more young people gain access to organized sports.

Project Play is an initiative of the Aspen Institute's Sports and Society Program. Chandra Thomas Whitfield spoke with Jon Soloman, the program's editorial director.
