Jim Gallagher made Colorado music history as a member of the 1960's surf music band, the Astronauts, based in Boulder, where Gallagher grew up. The Astronauts recorded for RCA, one of the biggest labels at the time, as an alternative to the Beach Boys, and in 1963 they scored a hit single with, "Baja."
Gallagher died November 20 at the age of 78. Ryan Warner spoke with him in 2012, just before the Astronauts were inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. G. Brown, the hall of fame's director, joined the conversation.
