Here’s a musical duo with an unusually close bond.

Richard Stoltzman is one of the best-known clarinetists in the world. He’s at home playing classical music or jazz.

His son, Peter John Stoltzman, is a jazz pianist who leads the piano department for the University of Colorado-Denver’s music program.

They’re set to perform together at a recital at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Unitarian Society of Denver. The program includes American music by composers like George Gershwin, Aaron Copland and Duke Ellington.

They joined Colorado Matters host Nathan Heffel to talk about their music and share memories of growing up in a musical family -- from Peter’s early love of jazz to Richard’s appearances on shows like “Sesame Street.”)

Check out their album of duets, called “Father and Son.” It includes gorgeous classical fare by Claude Debussy as well as several of Peter’s arrangements of jazz standards. (You’ll need a Spotify account, which is free, to listen.)
