Dr. Charles Blackwood was the first Black medical student to graduate from the University of Colorado in 1947.

He was the first Black medical student to graduate from The University of Colorado. Dr. Charles Blackwood graduated near the top of his class in 1947. And the native of Trinidad, Colorado, is making an impact long after his death. There’s a new multi-million dollar endowed scholarship in his name at CU, designed to grow the ranks of physicians of color. Dr. Terri Richardson led the fundraising campaign. She’s with the Mile High Medical Society and the Colorado Black Health Collaborative.
