A makeshift memorial has grown in Olde Town Arvada Square to Officer Gordon Beesley, a 19-year police veteran who was killed by gunfire Monday, June 21, 2021. His suspected attacker and “good Samaritan” Johnny Hurley were also killed in the shooting.

Johnny Hurley is being hailed a hero for taking down the gunman who killed Arvada police officer Gordon Beesley this month. Hurley himself was killed by another officer responding to the scene. As the investigation continues into what happened, we ask Don Black for perspective about training law enforcement to determine who's friend or foe. Black is a former Aurora police officer who's now an instructor at the Police Training Academy at Aurora Community College.
