Civil Unions Bill Heads to Full House Floor

A civil unions bill cleared the House Appropriations committee 7-6, with Republican Representative Cheri Gerou of Evergreen voting with Democrats. Several amendments to the bill were also approved in committee, including exemptions to social workers, mental health professionals, and on religious grounds. The bill now moves on to the full House, where it needs an initial vote by midnight or it will die on the calendar. Earlier today, several hundred supporters came to the capitol to rally for the measure prior to the committee hearing. Bente Birkeland reports.
