Colorado is launching a statewide branding initiative to help boost tourism. KRCC’s Eliza Densmore reports.

The initiative is called “Making Colorado” and is meant to capture the character and identity of the state through the contributions of its residents. The goals are to stimulate the economy and present a unified, creative picture of Colorado. The state’s Chief Marketing Officer, Aaron Kennedy, says they’re coming into the process with a blank slate.

"Ultimately, we think it’s going to be a parent brand, so a single sort of graphic icon and conceivably a slogan, and then they’ll be derivatives of that that will be used for tourism and for economic development and to attract talent from around the globe."

A group of councils is expected to sort through the input and present ideas to the public for feedback. Governor John Hickenlooper is expected to unveil the final results of the process in August.
