East Peak Fire Containment Remains at 50%

The estimated size of the East Peak Fire burning in Huerfano County is now 13,491 acres with 50% containment, and Walsenburg is no longer under a pre-evacuation notice. All other evacuation notices remain in effect. Cool weather helped the night shift in detecting heat. The night crew also continued some mop up and conducted burn out operations to help reduce the amount of remaining pockets of fuel, decreasing the likelihood of fuels igniting during today's Red Flag day. A community meeting is scheduled for today, June 25th at La Veta Town Park at 7 PM.
