CDOT: Portion of Manitou Ave. Remains Closed

Update, 7:00 PM Monday: CDOT has reopened Manitou Avenue to traffic at the U.S. 24 interchange.  In addition, the ramps from U.S. 24 to Manitou Avenue are open. The culvert has been cleared of debris, and CDOT will continue to monitor it.

Manitou Avenue is still closed this morning between Crystal Hills Park Road and Garden of the Gods Place.  This is U.S. 24-Business to the U.S. 24 interchange.  The Colorado Department of Transportation closed the road yesterday after a culvert clogged, causing water and sediment to flow down Manitou Avenue.  The culvert is at Sutherland Creek.  Overnight rain caused more water and sediment to flow down Manitou Avenue, and CDOT will work to unplug the culvert today.  Their goal is by 2 PM, when the next Flash Flood Watch for El Paso and Teller counties is set to go into effect.
