In honor of “Star Wars” Day, an unofficial holiday on May 4 created to celebrate the films, books and culture behind George Lucas’ “Star Wars” franchise, Denver organizations are throwing an array of events.
The vegetarian restaurant City O’ City and its adjoining live art space Deer Pile are hosting their third annual “May the Fourth Be With You” party.
This year, Mutiny Information Cafe, 3 Kings Tavern and City Hall have joined the roster of venues participating in the interplanetary festivities, helping spread the “Star Wars” fandom from South Broadway through Capitol Hill.
Itchy-O Marching Band, a 32-piece percussion collective that often descends on unsuspecting crowds with a musical storm of masked faces, whirling lights and driving beats, headlines Saturday’s costume contest at City Hall.
The band gave CPR an exclusive preview of one of its psychedelic songs. Hear the track on Friday's arts show at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Other cosmic weekend events include music from local musicians and DJs like Men in Burka, DJ DJ and Company of the Serpents, a special brunch at City O’ City with bottomless mimosas, and a screening of “Dreamscape” presented by Mile High Film.
Not enough “Star Wars” celebratory events for you?
StarFest, presented by Starland Entertainment and held at the Denver Tech Center, is another weekend-long event geared to satiate the biggest of “Star Wars” fans.
And the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum is hosting “Star Wars at the Hangar” on May 4, which includes games, contests and hands-on activities for the entire family to participate in.
The third annual “May the Fourth Be With You” party runs May 2-4 with events at City O’ City, Deer Pile, 3 Kings Tavern, Mutiny Information Cafe, City Hall and other venues. For more information, visit MaytheFourthDenver.com.
