The 15-year-old winner of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra’s wind concerto competition will be the featured soloist at the ensemble’s concerts this weekend.

Tatia Slouka, a bassoonist who attends Littleton’s Heritage High School, will perform a Vivaldi Bassoon Concerto in A minor Saturday and Sunday with the DYAO.

Slouka is the DYAO’s principal bassoonist and toured Italy, France and Spain with the orchestra in June. She also won a youth concerto competition sponsored by the Broomfield Symphony in 2013 and performed with that orchestra twice. Slouka also composes and arranges music.

When she’s not practicing her bassoon or performing, Slouka enjoys swimming, cycling and climbing Colorado’s fourteeners with her family.
