Fort Collins quartet The Covz made its CPR Performance Studio debut this month. The alternative rockers released their debut full length, "One Day This Will All Make Sense," this fall and have planned a string of Colorado performances, including a Halloween show at Equinox Brewery in Fort Collins.

The Covz played music from the new album along with three previously unreleased songs. They spoke with OpenAir about singer Ian Schroff's one-of-a-kind microphone stand, how they made the move to Colorado from southern California and what to expect from their upcoming Halloween show.

"It was an advertisement gimmick in the beginning, but it's become a staple. In the very beginning I got a mic stand and I was like: 'I want to make sure that everyone knows that this band is different.

"So I wrapped a bunch of rope lights along my mic in a spiral. I've carried it with me everywhere I go. ... It's my baby and it makes me feel at home."

Songs performed:

  • "Pearl"
  • "Slow Down"
  • "Kerosene"
  • "The Cable"
