Henderson Mine Will Lay Off 200

The company that owns the Henderson Mine and Henderson Mill near Empire plans to lay off more than 200 people next year.

According to the Denver Post, Freeport-McMoRan Inc. notified the state of its plans in a notice to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.

Company officials say production of molybdenum at the mine is expected to fall due to drops in price and demand.

Molybdenum mined in Colorado is used to strengthen steel.
