Here's another OpenAir studio session from the archives: Last winter, Denver dream pop band Oko Tygra visited the CPR Performance Studio.

Fronted by singer/guitarist Joshua Novak, Oko Tygra played a number of notable events in 2015, including the Colorado Music Party at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, the Westword Music Showcase and the Underground Music Showcase (UMS) on the Main Stage.

In addition to performing four songs, Novak spoke with Aaron 'Loki' Johnson about how he decided to start performing as Oko Tygra rather than under his own name, his 1980s alternative music influences and the inspiration behind the music video for "Glass Jaw."

Watch video of the band performing "Plasticine" above and read some of the interview below.

Novak on the Oko Tygra sound:

"It's kind of my love letter to the Cocteau Twins and Slowdive, but definitely bringing my experience as a songwriter and then wanting to collaborate with other people into a whole new thing. I think that it creates something influenced by that, but different."

Songs performed:

  • "Plasticine"
  • "Helium Drum"
  • "Glass Jaw"
  • "Mono Mano"
