announced Monday it will hear a lawsuit brought by several current and former teachers against Denver Public Schools.

The suit challenges a portion of the state’s teacher evaluation law that requires both principal and teacher to agree on a placement of a teacher in a school.

The teachers claim the law unfairly allows school districts to place experienced teachers on leave even if they have good evaluations. They argue that teachers have the right to a hearing before being placed on unpaid leave.

District officials have argued that the old policy forced principals to accept teachers that might not be the right fit for a school.
