TUESDAY UPDATE: Evacuees from the Hayden Pass Fire along County Road 6 in Fremont County will be allowed back to their homes starting Thursday morning at 8. Those returning home should know heavy timber will continue to burn on the interior of the fire perimeter.
ORIGINAL POST (Monday): Some residents of Fremont County who have been evacuated due to the Hayden Pass Fire are being allowed to return home.
Residents of County Road 1A, County Road 40, and the Eagle Peak and Fox Creek subdivisions, as well as Mosher Creek, can return to their homes starting tomorrow morning at 8. Officials are asking those folks to register at Cotopaxi High School until 8 tonight or from 8 until noon tomorrow.
"This is not an opening of the public lands," Jim Beiker, Fremont County Sheriff, said this morning. "The general public is still going to see still see law enforcement presence and roadblocks. The residents will only be allowed to enter and come and go with a pass system."
The passes are among the information residents will obtain upon registration.
Beicker said residents along County Road 6 are still under an evacuation order.
"There's just entirely too much equipment and operations there for it to be safe," said Beiker. "But the light is at the end of the tunnel for them as well. There cannot be an absolute date at this point for the residents on CR 6, but they are very close to being able to return as well."
As of this morning, the Hayden Pass Fire spans more than 16,000 acres and is 30% contained. 908 personnel are working the blaze.
