Officers Accuse Fort Collins Police Of Discrimination

Two officers are accusing the Fort Collins Police Department of discriminating against them based on their race and country of origin.

The Coloradoan reports that Sgt. Francis Gonzales this week joined a suit filed earlier this year on behalf of former Det. Kennyberg Araujo.

Gonzales adds to Araujo's allegations that former leaders in the department singled out minority officers for disciplinary procedures and passed over Hispanic officers for promotions despite their qualifications. Gonzales says he was passed over for a special assignment to become the school resource officer sergeant.

Gonzales is still employed as a sergeant with the department.

Fort Collins Police Services on Thursday declined to comment on the ongoing litigation.

A scheduling conference for the lawsuit is set for Oct. 3.
